Type /record on any line and Folevi starts recording from your microphone. Stop and save, and the recording sits in the note with a player, next to the text it belongs to.

Record from the / menu

On an empty line, type / and then rec, or pick Audio recording in the Insert panel. The first time, your browser asks to use the microphone. While it records you see the time and a level meter, so you know it can hear you.

  • Pause and resume as often as you like. Paused time doesn’t count.
  • Stop and save adds the recording to the note. Cancel throws it away, and pressing Escape never does, so a stray key can’t lose a recording.
  • A recording can be up to three hours long. It stops by itself at three hours.

Play it back in the note

Each recording has its own player: play and pause, drag or use the arrow keys to move through it, switch between 1×, 1.5× and 2× speed, and download the file. Recordings are named by date and time, like “Recording 2026-10-01 09.12”, and ⌘K search finds the note by that name. They’re listed with the note’s other attachments in its sidebar.

Saved on your device first

Like everything in Folevi, a recording is saved on your device as soon as you stop. It plays from there straight away, and uploads in the background when you’re online, so you can record on a train with no signal. Recordings count towards your storage, the same as images and files.

Sharing and export

Recordings play on public links with the same player. Markdown and HTML exports include the audio files, and the HTML export plays them. Folevi for Mac (coming soon) records and plays them the same way as the web.

How do I record audio in a Folevi note?
Type /record on an empty line and press Return, or pick Audio recording in the Insert panel. Allow the microphone when your browser asks, then press Stop and save.
How long can a recording be?
Up to three hours. The recorder stops by itself at three hours, and you can pause and resume as often as you like.
Does Folevi transcribe recordings?
Yes, on plans with Foli AI. Press Transcribe on a recording and Foli AI writes it out word for word, with speakers marked. Recordings of any length up to 4 hours can be transcribed, and Folevi shows what it will cost in AI credits before it starts.

Which browsers can record?
Recent versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox. Chrome, Edge and Firefox record WebM audio and Safari records MP4 audio; recent browsers play both.
