Sync and offline
How offline editing works in Folevi, what the Saved, Saving, Offline, Syncing, Conflict and Not saved statuses mean, and how version snapshots work.
Updated
Folevi saves every change on your device first, then syncs it. On the web, your notes are kept in the browser’s storage; Folevi for Mac keeps them the same way, on your Mac. You can keep writing with no connection at all.
What works offline
With no connection you can:
- Write and edit notes, including new ones.
- Organize folders: make, rename, recolor, move and delete them, and move notes into a folder you just made.
- Comment: start a thread (also on a line you wrote offline), reply, edit, resolve, delete and react, and mark threads read or unread.
- Work in collections: change values, add, rename, reorder and delete rows, add, rename and delete properties and their options, add, rename and delete views, and change a view’s filters, sorting, grouping or calendar date. A row you add offline opens as a page right away, and what you write in it is saved once the row is.
The folders, comments and collections you’ve opened before on this device stay readable offline, even after the page reloads. Your changes wait on the device, and the sync status counts them, for example “Offline, 3 changes waiting”. Open it to see the list. When you’re back online they’re sent in the order you made them, each one once. If the server turns one down, for example because you no longer have access to the page, it isn’t thrown away: it stays in the list marked Not saved, with Retry and Discard.
Sync statuses
Each page shows one of these statuses:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Saved | Everything has reached our servers and been confirmed. Folevi never shows Saved before that. |
| Saving | You’re online and recent edits are on their way. |
| Offline | No connection. Edits are stored on this device, with a count of how many are waiting. |
| Syncing | You’ve reconnected; Folevi is fetching changes from other devices and sending yours. |
| Conflict | The same block was changed in two places. Folevi keeps both versions, throws nothing away and shows you the conflict so you can decide. |
| Not saved | A change couldn’t be applied, or syncing failed repeatedly. Open the status for details and a retry button. |
When a page shows a conflict, choose Keep mine, Keep theirs or Keep both.
Version snapshots
Version snapshots are taken automatically as you work, so you can go back to an earlier state of a page. See Version history.
